The tro- phies were commemorative Route 66 plates with a decal of the event’s logo and amazing hand crafted Affen head sculptures created by Russian artist Olga Mazirko. Olga’s work was so de- tailed that even the presentation box was a work of art! Each class winner was presented a leash and every dog was given a toy. Our Sweepstakes judge on Sunday was Joyce Vaughn. Joyce obtained her first Bouvier des Flandres in 1989, starting her love of the breed and showing. She has bred and raised ap- proximately 60Bouviers and remains active in both showing and breeding. She has been associated with the Bonneville Basin Kennel Association for over 22 years and is currently the President of the BBKA. Joyce was honored to judge the Futurity for the American Bouvier des Flandres Club, as well as Sweepstakes for the Inter- mountainWorking Dog Club of Utah, the Bernese Mountain dog Regional Specialty of Colorado, the Group Four Terrier Club of Utah and the Cactus Bouvier des Flandres Club of Arizona, just to name a few. Joyce selected Limelite’s Practically Perfect of Hilane for Best Junior in Sweepstakes, with Ferlin Cobbler’s Solace Uncle Sam chosen as Best of Opposite Sex Junior. Her pick for Best in Sweepstakes/Best Senior in Sweepstakes was Enchante’s Boston Cream Pi and Best of Opposite Sex Senior in Sweeps was Coachlight Aff- ter a Pixilated Prodigy. CH Ryzann’s Flying Fiona of Ferlin CDBNRAwas Best Veteran in Sweepstakes.

It Hot and Select Bitch was the belge GCH Cobbler Ferlin’s Brazen Gil- lette. Bred By class winner, Tamarin Type Cast (notable in that Lester is Chester’s littermate) was chosen as Winners Dog/Best of Winners, with the 12—18 Months Dog winner, En- chante’s Boston Cream Pi, picked as Reserve Winners Dog. Reserve Winners Bitch, from the Ameri- can Bred Class, was the Canadian CH Ferlin Gizmo’s Game Play. Best Owner Handler was GCH Pramada’s Naughty Some Like It Hot, who gar- nered a NOHS Group 3 under Judge Edd Bivin. On Saturday evening attendees were able to “Up Up and Affen Away!” with friends, old and new exploring “Old Town Albuquerque” and the many restaurants that cater to a variety of cultures and tastes. Many gathered in the hospitality room for games, snacks, liquid refreshment and dis- cussion of Affens around the world. It was interesting to hear about the breeding programs and health issues in New Zealand and Australia, as well as learn about the differences in breed standards. Sunday’s theme—the day of the Na- tional—was “Get Your Affen Kicks on Route 66”—with 50’s/60’s attire, decorations and prizes inspired by that iconic highway that meanders through New Mexico and Albuquer- que on its way to the west coast and east to Chicago. Affen skirts, bobby socks and ducktails were found both in and outside the ring and a beauti- ful Route 66 backdrop at the club’s snack table provided just the right atmosphere for the event.
