T he Affenpinscher Club of Ameri- ca has closed the books on anoth- er successful National. This year it was held in beautiful Albuquer- que, New Mexico between May 11 through May 14, in conjunction with the High Desert Cluster under the auspices of the Rio Grande Kennel Club (supported entry and National) and Coronado Kennel Club (support- ed entry). The venue was the spacious Expo New Mexico’s Lujan Center at the NewMexico State Fairgrounds. The cluster gave attendees a great op- portunity to enjoy 4 days of competi- tion full of beautiful dogs and dozens of vendors with Affen aficionados from across the USA, as well as Ger- many, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. The overarching theme— The Land of Aff—Enchantment Weekend—honored the rich culture and history of NewMexico, with each day paying homage to an aspect of the state’s heritage, while elements of turquoise, for which the region is re- nown, served as the common tie that was woven throughout the event’s ro- settes, decorations and prizes.

Reserve Winners Dog and Bitch were all presented with bright colored New Mexico themed grooming aprons. Our Sweepstakes judge on Saturday was Dianne Tyree, longtime breeder/ exhibitor of Golden Retrievers, Ti- betan Spaniels. Dianne also owns and shows an Affen. Her choice for Best in Sweepstakes/Best Junior in Sweep- stakes was Tamarin Tennile. Best Se- nior in Sweepstakes was Enchante’s Boston Cream Pi and Best of Oppo- site Sex Senior in Sweeps was Coach- light Aff-ter a Pixilated Prodigy. Our Supported Entry breed judge was Charles Trotter. Mr. Trotter se- lected the stunning belge dog GCH Tamarin Tattoo (Chester) as Best of Breed out of a wonderful class of 10 specials. Chester went on to Group 1 under Mr. Trotter and then, to the Af- fen lovers’ delight, took Best in Show under Judge Nathaniel Horn. Best of Opposite Sex/Winners Bitch was the lovely belge Bred By class winner, Limelight’s Jamaican Me Crazy, who finished her championship with this win. Select Dog was the showy black GCH Pramada’s Naughty Some Like

The weekend’s events began with a Friday night reception at the host hotel, the Albuquerque Marriott Up- town, followed by a round table dis- cussion in the Hospitality Suite on Affenpinscher Health and Welfare, Stud Dog Directory and other general topics of interest. Welcome bags full of goodies donated by club members were distributed, while conversation flowed along with the refreshments, including the signature cocktail— “The Affentail.” Saturday’s agenda started with Judg- es Education Chair Pam Peat hosting a workshop for aspiring Affen judges. The unseasonable rainy and chilly weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit though, as the “International Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Day” had exhibitors and attendees dressing in bright colors in honor of the glori- ous balloons that fill the turquoise blue New Mexico skies each October. The ring markers and trophy table decorations supported the theme as well. Best of Breed, Best of Winners, Best of Opposite Sex, Select Dog and Bitch, Winners Dog and Bitch and
