Top Notch Toys October 2018

With him being out just a short amount of time, he won the breed and went Group Two at the Westminster Kennel Club—an amazing thing for a new dog out. By the end of the year, he finished number one Toy and number six all breed—an accomplishment never achieved by a Pomeranian. Bonnie and I thought, “What more could he do?” In December, he went Group Three at the Eukanuba show; we were very proud to say the least. We started the next year with a bang, again. He took Group Three at the Garden, Best in Show at very large shows like Portland Kennel Club, Woofstock and many others. Along the way, respected judges like Mr. Edd Bivin, Mr. Fred Bassett and so many others made comments that he was the best they had ever seen in many years. Judges were quoted saying, “He is not a good one, he is a great one.”

At the end of his career, that lasted a little over two years, he had accumu- lated 84 all breed Best in Shows, 313 Group Firsts, National and other spe- cialties. The record for Poms to win Best in Show up to that time was 42, won by CH Pufpride Sweet Dreams. Prior to that was a dog shown by Por- ter Washington, named Sparky, that won 41 in 1973. Upon Danny's retirement, he lived with me for over two years as a per- fect house and travel companion. He traveled with me in the motorhome everywhere I went. In June, he was his usual self—running around the house, doing usual Danny-things. Normally, when fixing the house dogs’ meals, he would be right there in the kitchen; that day he wasn’t. I called him and went to his usual spot under the end-table where the fan would blow. I thought he was looking at me; sadly, he had passed with no sign of

anything wrong. I rushed to the vet and he was sent to Western Universi- ty to do a complete examination. The conclusion was the only thing they could find—he had had an aneurysm. My devastation lasted for weeks; he was such a part of me in many ways and more of a child than I could ever lose. Bonnie and I took his passing so hard. Bonnie’s hus- band, Mike, had always been one of his greatest fans; his quote was, “He shined so bright as a star; the bright- est, burning star burns out the fast- est. He had a great life with us and didn’t suffer.” I really doubt therewill ever be anoth- er Danny; in my heart, as well as, the hearts of others. He will always shine the brightest. He will remain themost winning Pomeranian in breed history for many, many years; his record will stand the test of time. Rest in peace, the love of my life.
