THE LOSS OF A SHINING STAR A TRIBUTE TO DANNY

by Curtiss Smith

I was asked to do a little write up for Danny, GCHP HiTimes What the Inferno. When I first saw Danny, it was at the Eukanuba show in De- cember 2013. I was showing a Toy Poodle, Ribbon. From across the room, I saw Udomsin Littichaikun (Rang) working a little Pomwith such gusto and type that I had to see him closer! Before he hit the ring, I went to him and said, “I want this dog!” Rang told me that he was two years old and already had five Best in Shows in Thailand. We talked and throughout the week, he had won the breed from the classes on the first day and fin- ished the week with very stiff compe- tition. Throughout the next week, we worked out a deal with Bonnie Bird and at the end of December, I flew to Florida to get him. The first weekend out, Danny won the Toy group at the Palm Springs Toy Club under respected Toy judge, Mr. Norman Patton, who was quoted to say that Danny was the best Pom he had ever seen. The next weekend, he won back-to- back best in shows in Arizona and his career took off. Usually, you run the first year to see how a special will do and then go hard the next. In his first three months, he was number three all breed—so we hit things harder. That year, Danny won one of the larg- est National Specialities under Mrs. Vicki Abbott. Winning under such a great Toy judge, that I respected so much, added more to our happiness.
