“PEPPER AND I ARE SHOW DOGS. My MoM and dad jusT sTarTed showing abouT Two years ago.”

was a Star Puppy! We kept going to the building after that to practice what we were supposed to do in the show ring. They entered me in a couple puppy matches. I did okay. When I was about five months old, Mom thought I needed someone to play with. Old people spoil you but they can’t play for very long and don’t move so fast. She checked back with Selah Havanese, but she said they didn’t have any show puppies at that time. When we were at a show I heard her ask around and she found out Amblers Havanese would have a male puppy available soon. Pretty soon, Bandido joined the family. At first I had to careful when we played because he was smaller than me. But now he is as big as me and we can play harder. I usually let him chase me. I can run faster, further and do fancier paw work than him. If he is lucky, he’ll be able to grab me by the tail and drag me around. So, as far as I can tell one of our jobs is to guard the house and our people. We sit on our benches by our bedroom window and watch for people, ani- mals and vicious leaves that approach our yard. Then we warn Mom and Dad. They expect us to behave when our favorite guests come, as if that’s ever happening. We give everyone the Havanese welcome. “Bandido” Hi! I’m Bandido. I’m the bigger, mostly-white furred guy. I came to live with Pepper, Mom and Dad when I was about nine weeks old. I was so glad to leave my litter sisters. They terrorized me. I’m still afraid of them even though I’m bigger. My first human mom and dad were great, it’s just those little bitches

that made my life tough. They really picked on me. When I moved to my new home I loved it. We had a bit of a hiccup when Mom and Dad thought I should go on the indoor potty pad like Pepper. Being old, they are kind of slow learners, but once I trained them to let me out- side to do my business, we were fine. Going outside is more interesting. My first winter we had a snow storm and Dad cleared a spot for me to go potty. He should have asked me first because I like snow piles better. One day we had an ice storm and the yard was covered with a sheet of ice, even my favorite spot. I hopped on the snow pile and pooped, but the poop slid down the hill and zoomed across the yard. Dad was so funny chasing my poop across the yard with the poop bag in hand. I pretty much take care of myself, for example, I can order my own fro- zen custard. I’m so proud. When dad pulls up to the little box with the human in it, I just lean really close to Dad’s ear and yell into the box. Dad says I’m just whining, but the human in the box understands me because when we drive a little further, human hands reach out from a window with my custard. I really love my dad, he is my person. I love him so much that when he leaves my sight I start crying. It’s a good thing that they take us most everywhere they go. We love shopping, especially at the hardware store and banks, because they give us bait and tell us we are cute. Pep- per likes being cute. I love bait. Pepper and I have fun chasing each other around and coming up with new things to make Mom and Dad laugh. Mom and Dad are sometimes a little

absent-minded. When it is time to eat and they haven’t gotten my food out yet, I give them what I call “the stare.” If Dad is in his recliner, sometimes I even have to jump up, stand on his chest and give him the stare. I have my bell hanging from the front-door handle and I ring it when I need to go outside. Sometimes I ring it even when I don’t need to go potty. I get a laugh out of ringing the bell when dad settles into his recliner with a fresh cup of coffee. It’s hilarious. When we get outside and he tries to rush me to get back to his coffee, I just stop in my tracks and give him the stare. Pepper and I are show dogs. My mom and dad just started showing about two years ago. They do their own handling, but they had tons of mentoring from other Havanese owner-handlers, includ- ing my first mom. I am always happy to see her as long as she doesn’t bring my sisters. When there is a dog show that Dad thinks we should attend, we go. So far most of the shows have been in Michi- gan but we have been to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and South Carolina. I love being in the ring, because I get to check out the bait the other dogs are getting. I love bait. I also like to play in the ring, but Dad says I should grow up and not be a puppy. He needs to loosen up a bit, so I just ignore him and play anyway. Not too long ago, Mom and Dad called me a Grand Champion and gave me extra bait. I love bait. Pepper and I know we are well loved and that Mom and Dad wouldn’t trade us for the world. Though they can be difficult at times, we both love Dad and Mom so much and know we have it made here.
