“OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, I HAVE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY TELL ME THAT THEY NEVER REALLY LIKED PEKINGESE until they met Reese.”

It turns out that Reese was very good at Rally. He recently became only the second Pekingese in the country to earn a Rally Masters title. He accom- plished this before the age of three! He participated in his first Rally trial at just one year old, earning his Nov- ice title at 14 months. In addition to his accomplishments in Rally, Reese also has an Advanced AKC Tricks title and an Advanced Canine Good Citizen title. It amazes me how quick- ly Reese learns new things. I attribute that in part to his breeder, Malinda Jacques, who had already introduced him to clicker training by the age of eight weeks. One of my goals with Reese is to be an ambassador for the breed and help change the perception that Pekingese

don’t do much but lay around. Over the last two years, I have had so many people actually tell me that they never really liked Pekingese until they met Reese. When we were doing our last trial to obtain our Masters, I was overwhelmed by all of the support of my fellow handlers watching to see if Reese would get his last qualifier. At one point, I wasn’t sure he was going to come over the jump, and when he did, the crowd erupted with applause. So what’s next for this special little guy? Why are currently taking scent work classes and may pursue a title in scent work. We will start working on our Novice Obedience title also. We may even pursue a Rally Champion (RACH) title.
