1. WHAT BREED CHARAC- TERISTICS ARE MOST IM- PORTANT TO YOU WHEN YOU PLAN A MATING? When planning a breeding, I consid- er what I would like to improve in the bitch. Big, beautiful butterfly ears are always important. Outline and type are very important considerations. Good structure is a must. Papillons are beau- tiful, but they also excel in agility, so soundness is a requirement. 2. WHICH DOG THAT YOU HAVE BRED DO YOU FEEL COMES CLOSEST TO THE STANDARD IDEAL? This is a difficult question to answer. If I have to choose just one, I think I must choose “Harlow”, GCH Copella La Ren Simply Irresistible. She has received some prestigious wins at specialties under breeder/judges.

3. PAPILLONS ARE AN INTERNATIONAL BREED. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON IMPORTING AND EXPORTING? Papillons are an international breed, but type does vary slightly from coun- try to country. I think no one should import a dog unless they travel to the kennel and evaluate the dog in per- son. No one should import a dog based on photographs. The same is true of exporting. Visit the kennel before exporting to that kennel. 4. TO DATE, WHICH DOGS DO YOU FEEL HAVE CON- TRIBUTED MOST TO YOUR BREEDING PROGRAM? 5. WHAT IS YOUR PET PEEVE IN THE SHOW/ BREEDING WORLD?

I feel that show breeders are the guardians of the breed and we should take the responsibility very seriously. The future of the breed is in our hands. Breeders should have a plan for main- taining the breed standard and improv- ing their breeding programs. Irrespon- sible and unethical breeding practices are two of my pet peeves. 6. HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU CONSIDER GROOMING WHEN YOU ARE SHOWING A DOG? Presenting a clean and well groomed dog is very important. We should always
