2022 WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB

“WHATEVER THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR THE WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB, THE MAGIC WILL ALWAYS BE THERE IN A CELEBRATION OF NOSTALGIA AND HISTORY.”

5. Please share your thoughts on Westminster’s signifi- cance to the fancy? What does the show represent to the general public? To you, personally? Just the name “West- minster” is synonymous with the Super Bowl of our sport. Fanciers strive each year to make the trek to New York to attend and exhibit at this special event. I encourage anyone with Westminster Kennel Club on their bucket list to at- tend. It is the public’s window into our sport of purebred dogs and will hopefully spark their interest. It gives them a connection to dogs that they may be thinking of bringing into their home as a new companion, or they may see a dog at the show or on the televised event like the one they cur- rently own. I look forward to attending Westminster every year whether exhibiting or just as a spectator. It is a spe- cial event where, as a preservation breeder, I can celebrate purebred dogs with other dedicated fanciers. 6. Anything else you would like to share? It is an honor to judge at any show. However, to judge at the second lon- gest running sporting event in US history was humbling. I want to thank David Haddock, David Helming, and the rest of the Westminster Kennel Club committee for this amazing opportunity. CINDY VOGELS

5. Please share your thoughts on Westminster’s signifi- cance to the fancy. What does the show represent to the general public? To you, personally? Westminster Ken- nel Club is second only to the Kentucky Derby for North America’s oldest sporting event. The event has an unparal- leled sense of camaraderie, bringing the fancy and public together for two magical nights, providing education to the general public, and allowing us to share our passion and commitment to the sport of purebred dogs. 6. Anything else you would like to share? Whatever the future holds for the Westminster Kennel Club, the magic will always be there in a celebration of nostalgia and his- tory. I am thrilled to have been part of that history. ANGELA PICKETT

1. When did you learn that you would be judging some of the Toy breeds at Westminster this year? I received the special Westminster Kennel Club em- bossed envelope with my invita- tion to judge the 146th Westmin- ster Kennel Club show in March of 2021. It was a very special in- vitation and an assignment that I will never forget.

1. Which Toy breeds did you judge? How were the entries? I judged Biewer Terriers at the 2022 Westminster show. Luckily, it was a gorgeous day at Lyndhurst and the beautiful green grass was a perfect back- drop for the dogs. Because of the restrictions placed on judges before the show, I had actually never judged the breed before

2. Which Toy breeds did you judge? How were the en- tries? I judged Chihuahuas (both Long & Smooth Variet- ies), Japanese Chin, Papillons, Silky Terriers, and York- shire Terriers. Entries were very good and deep in quality. 3. Can you tell us about the overall quality in the breeds you judged? Any standouts? Is there any cause for con- cern? With the entry being made up of all champions, the quality was very good with many of the top dogs in the country being exhibited. There were many standouts in all the breeds. The overall quality of the Yorkshire Terriers as well as the Long Coat Chihuahuas was excellent. The only issue was that there were not enough ribbons for all of the quality dogs that were exhibited. 4. What are your thoughts about the show’s location at Lyndhurst? Did you miss being in Manhattan in Febru- ary? The show site is beautiful, with every attention to de- tail covered by the show committee. The same electricity & excitement was in the air at Lyndhurst as was at the Piers/ Madison Square Garden. Both the Tarrytown venue and the Manhattan venue are amazing. Both venues make for a memorable event due to the hard work and dedication of the show committee.

WKC. This made my preparation a bit challenging, but it also afforded me the opportunity to judge some of the best Biewers in America at my first assignment. What an intro - duction to this charming Toy! I was delighted with the size of the entry and the overall excellent quality of the dogs. I felt that all reflected the desired “less stylized” grooming, and temperaments were all typically friendly and outgo- ing. The entry also sported the correct, unique color pat- terns. My winners edged out the field, excelling in outline, head characteristics, and overall construction which was reflected in their proper, smooth movement. I thank all the exhibitors for entering, and I wish you all luck with this at- tractive, fun breed.
