I had planned an upbeat editorial about National specialties, dogs and dog shows, Toys in general and Toy people in par- ticular. However, with all the dissension and outright hatred running rampant in our society, I cannot find it in my soul to do so. I’m fighting hard not to fill my heart with hatred for the fac- tions on this earth who’ve declared war on the good people of this earth, but quite frankly it’s a battle I’ve not yet won. Yet if we, too, become blinded by hate, we join the ranks of the extremists we profess to disavow. In times like this we need a touchstone, a pillar to grasp to regain equilibrium. I turn, then, to the proclamation beloved by all true Americans, from child- hood on; it is my inspiration and my consolation: EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NA- TION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
As a dog fancier, I live in a world surrounded by honest and dedicated—albeit very competitive—people who don’t hold many of the social and racial prejudices that we see in the mainstream press. I continue to be proud of our community which is wonderfully tolerant and inclusive. It’s hard to hate people when you love dogs. Here’s wishing everyone a won- derful holiday. I’ll see you at the shows and next month in Top Notch Toys.
